I apologize that this has taken me a couple days to get up here but there is so much to look at in these chapters. Please make sure you take some time each day this week and even the beginning of next to study and meditate on these chapters. Meditate means to ponder or “chew on”. It’s “eating” the word of God. Take the time to slowly read through like you were eating the most delicious 8 course meal of your life! 🙂
Start off each day with prayer to help focus your heart and mind. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom and understanding as you read God’s word.
Day 1 : Read 1 Samuel 21 & 22
>>> Spend this time focusing on the greatness of God. What is he doing through these chapters and in the life of David? (the notes on these chapters will help with this, I promise!)
>>> Read Psalm 34. This is the psalm that David wrote when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech, the Philistine king. v. 8 is actually the drive behind this blog 🙂
How does this call you to adore God? What are some characteristics of God that David is recalling in this psalm?
Day 2 : Read 1 Samuel 21 & 22 again.
Write down any other insights you may have gained from these chapters, specifically ones about yourself.
>>> Read Psalm 57. David wrote this when he was take refuge in the cave and it’s beautiful. He cries out to God for protection and deliverance. How does David show us that we should do when we are in a crisis?
Your crisis will obviously look very different than David’s. Hopefully none of us are running for our lives. But we all experience times of anxiousness, confusion, brokenness, etc.
In 1 Samuel 21 & 22 and in this Psalm we see that David is so focused on the Lord that nothing seems to sway him. In Psalm 57 he even says, v.7 “my heart is steadfast, O God”. I get this image in my head of a constant, calm, restful heart.
>>> Spend time confessing your lack of trusting and resting in God’s perfect plan for your life. This has been a constant theme for me recently. As my 27th birthday approaches I have been feeling anxious that I’m not where I want to be. I’m not married, not dating, still in school for my undergrad, I could be skinnier, prettier, smarter, etc. There is also something right?
Day 3 : What has God been teaching you this week? It can be something about God, yourself, and others.
>>> For some extra reading, read Psalm 52. I hope you are like me and LOVE the Psalms! If not, I apologize 🙂
David wrote Psalm 52 about Doeg after he had told Saul what he had seen between David and Ahimelech.
Day 4 : Prayer
Take some time to journal your prayer. Go sit outside in a quiet place. Pray for your heart. What are the things that are festering in your heart that you need to give to God? Is it hurt, bitterness, anxiousness, pride, etc.?
Take refuge in Him! Trust in His unfailing love!
You are a daughter of the one true King!
